Midodrine Hydrochloride is a prescription medicine primarily used to manage symptomatic orthostatic hypotension, a condition in which blood pressure falls when a person stands up. This can cause dizziness, weakness, blurred vision, light-headedness, and fainting, potentially interfering with everyday activities. Midodrine works through its active metabolite, desglymidodrine, which stimulates alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in blood vessels. This causes blood vessels to constrict, helping increase blood pressure while standing. Doctors may prescribe Midodrine for carefully selected patients when symptoms significantly affect daily functioning and other management measures have not provided sufficient relief.

Follow the prescribed dosage: Take only the dose recommended by your healthcare professional. Do not increase, reduce, or change the dose without medical advice. Follow a regular schedule: Take the medicine at the prescribed times during the day. Your doctor may schedule doses around periods when you need to remain upright. Avoid taking it near bedtime: Midodrine can cause dangerously high blood pressure while lying down. The last dose is generally taken at least three to four hours before bedtime, according to your doctor's instructions. Avoid lying flat after taking it: Remain upright when possible and follow your doctor's advice about head elevation during rest. Tell your doctor if you need to lie down frequently. Monitor your blood pressure: Check your blood pressure while standing and lying down as instructed. Keep a record of readings and share unusual results with your healthcare professional. Manage missed doses carefully: Follow your patient leaflet or ask your pharmacist what to do. Do not double your next dose or take an extra dose near bedtime. Report urinary problems: Midodrine may cause difficulty urinating or urinary retention. Inform your doctor promptly if you experience a weak urine stream or difficulty emptying your bladder. Discuss existing health conditions: Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, heart disease, thyroid problems, or difficulty urinating before starting treatment.
