Ergotamine Tartrate & Caffeine Tablets USP is a prescription combination medicine used to manage certain acute migraine attacks. It contains ergotamine tartrate, which acts on specific serotonin receptors and causes blood vessels to constrict, and caffeine, which supports the action of ergotamine. The medicine may help relieve migraine symptoms in appropriately selected patients when taken according to a doctor's instructions. Migraine can cause severe headaches, sensitivity to light and sound, nausea, and difficulty performing everyday activities. Ergotamine Tartrate & Caffeine Tablets USP may be prescribed for suitable patients, but it is not appropriate for every headache condition and should not be used for routine daily headache prevention. Frequent use can lead to serious adverse effects, including restricted blood flow to the hands, feet, or other body tissues. Patients with high blood pressure, heart disease, circulation problems, or kidney or liver impairment require particular medical assessment. Ergotamine also has potentially dangerous interactions with certain antibiotics, antifungal medicines, antiviral medicines, and other drugs. Never exceed the prescribed dose or combine this medicine with another migraine treatment containing an ergot derivative without medical advice.
How to use
Take only as prescribed: Use this medicine only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. The appropriate dose depends on your prescription and medical history. Follow the product label: Swallow the tablet as directed, with water if appropriate. Do not change the dose or repeat it sooner than instructed.
