Medicine information

Uses & overview

Etodolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that doctors prescribe to relieve pain and inflammation. You can buy Etodolac tablets online from a licensed pharmacy with a valid prescription and get them delivered to your doorstep anywhere in India. Etodolac works by blocking the enzymes that produce prostaglandins, the chemicals that cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. It preferentially targets the COX-2 enzyme, which is why it is often better tolerated by the stomach than some older NSAIDs, although stomach side effects can still occur. Relief usually begins within a few hours, and extended-release forms can be taken once a day. It is commonly prescribed for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute pain from sprains, strains, and injuries. It also helps with swelling and stiffness, so daily movement becomes more comfortable.

How to use

Etodolac should be taken exactly as your doctor prescribes, using the lowest effective dose for the shortest time needed. Follow the points below along with your doctor’s instructions and the directions on the product label. Dosage: The dose depends on your condition and the tablet type. For arthritis, a commonly prescribed dose is 400 mg once or twice a day (immediate-release) or 400 to 1,000 mg once a day (extended-release). For acute pain, doctors often prescribe 200 to 400 mg every 6 to 8 hours. Do not exceed 1,000 mg in a day, and never increase the dose on your own. Best time to take: Take it after food or with a glass of milk. This reduces the risk of acidity, stomach pain, and irritation. How to swallow: Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break extended-release tablets, as this can release the medicine too quickly. Stay upright: Stay sitting or standing for at least 10 minutes after taking it. Do not lie down right away, as this helps prevent throat and stomach irritation. Be consistent: Take it at the same time every day. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Never take a double dose. Avoid other painkillers: Do not take other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, or aspirin at the same time unless your doctor approves. Duration of use: Use it only for as long as your doctor advises, and ask for a review if pain does not improve.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and keep out of reach of children.

Important guidance

Safety advice

Check with your doctor
AlcoholConsult your doctor

Avoid or limit alcohol while taking Etodolac. Alcohol can irritate the stomach lining and, together with an NSAID, raises the risk of acidity, ulcers, and stomach bleeding. It may also increase dizziness. Please consult your doctor if you drink regularly.

PregnancyConsult your doctor

Etodolac is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially after 20 weeks, when NSAIDs can affect the baby’s kidneys and heart circulation and reduce amniotic fluid. Use it only if your doctor decides it is clearly necessary. Do not self-medicate.

BreastfeedingConsult your doctor

Etodolac may pass into breast milk, and its safety for the nursing baby is not well established. Your doctor may suggest a safer pain relief option while you are breastfeeding. Please do not take it without medical advice.

DrivingConsult your doctor

Etodolac can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision in some people. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or doing tasks that need full alertness until you know how this medicine affects you, and do not drive if you feel unwell.

KidneyConsult your doctor

Use with caution if you have kidney problems. Etodolac, like other NSAIDs, can reduce blood flow to the kidneys and worsen kidney function, and it is usually avoided in severe kidney disease. Your doctor may monitor your kidney function. Do not take it without medical advice.

LiverConsult your doctor

Use with caution if you have liver disease, as Etodolac is processed by the liver and may rarely cause liver enzyme changes or liver injury. Your doctor may check your liver function. Stop it and seek help if you notice yellow eyes or dark urine.
