Medicine information

Uses & overview

Gefisteris 250 Tablet is an anticancer medicine containing Gefitinib 250 mg. Gefitinib belongs to a class of medicines called tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). It works by blocking the activity of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a protein that can contribute to the growth and multiplication of cancer cells. Gefisteris 250 is used for the treatment of certain patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly when the tumor has specific EGFR mutations. Gefitinib may be prescribed when appropriate based on the patient's cancer type and molecular testing results. The medicine should be taken only under the supervision of a qualified oncologist. Your doctor may recommend laboratory tests and other monitoring during treatment. Tell your doctor about any existing lung, liver, or eye problems and all medicines, vitamins, and supplements you are taking. Common side effects may include skin rash, dry skin, itching, acne-like skin changes, mouth sores, diarrhea, and weakness. Serious reactions can include new or worsening breathing problems, severe diarrhea, liver problems, eye disorders, and serious skin reactions. Seek medical attention promptly if you develop significant breathing difficulty, persistent diarrhea, vision changes, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.

How to use

Take Gefisteris 250 exactly as prescribed by your oncologist. Gefitinib 250 mg is generally taken orally once daily, with or without food, at approximately the same time each day. Do not take more or less than the prescribed dose. Swallow the tablet with water. If you have difficulty swallowing the tablet, ask your doctor or pharmacist about the appropriate method of administration. If you miss a dose, follow your doctor's instructions and do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Do not stop Gefisteris 250 or change the dose without consulting your doctor. Your oncologist may temporarily interrupt, adjust, or discontinue treatment depending on your response and any side effects.

Storage

Store Gefisteris 250 tablets in their original container, tightly closed, at room temperature and away from excessive heat and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the packaging. Dispose of unused medicine safely according to your pharmacist's or local medicine-disposal guidance.
