Medicine information

Uses & overview

Ketorolac Tromethamine Dispersible Tablets 10 mg is a prescription pain-relieving medicine belonging to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) class. It is used for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe acute pain when a healthcare professional determines that ketorolac is appropriate. Its action involves inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes, thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins responsible for pain and inflammation. Ketorolac may be prescribed for certain types of acute postoperative pain and other short-term painful conditions, depending on the patient's medical history and the clinician's assessment. It is not suitable for every type of pain and is not intended for chronic or long-term use. Treatment duration must be strictly limited because the risk of serious adverse effects increases with continued use. Ketorolac can cause serious gastrointestinal bleeding, stomach ulcers, kidney injury, and cardiovascular complications. It may be unsuitable for people with active peptic ulcers, a history of gastrointestinal bleeding, significant kidney impairment, bleeding disorders, or certain heart conditions. It should not be combined with other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or naproxen, unless specifically directed by a specialist.

How to use

Follow the prescribed dose: Take only the dose recommended by your healthcare professional. Do not increase the dose because your pain persists. Disperse the tablet correctly: Follow the package leaflet for preparing the dispersible tablet, including the recommended amount of water and administration method. Observe the treatment duration: Use ketorolac for the shortest period necessary under medical supervision. Systemic ketorolac treatment is generally limited to a maximum of five days, subject to local labeling and the prescribed regimen. Avoid duplicate painkillers: Do not combine ketorolac with ibuprofen, aspirin used for pain, naproxen, diclofenac, or other NSAIDs unless your doctor specifically advises it. Check other medicines: Inform your doctor about blood thinners, corticosteroids, and other medicines that may increase bleeding or kidney-related risks. Handle missed doses carefully: Follow your product leaflet or ask your pharmacist for advice. Never take a double dose. Watch for warning signs: Seek urgent medical attention for black stools, vomiting blood, severe abdominal pain, chest pain, or reduced urination. Store safely: Keep the medicine in its original packaging and out of children's reach.

Safety advice

Check with your doctor
AlcoholConsult your doctor

Avoid alcohol while taking ketorolac because combining them can increase the risk of stomach irritation, gastrointestinal ulcers, and serious bleeding.

PregnancyConsult your doctor

Consult your doctor before using ketorolac during pregnancy. NSAIDs may harm fetal kidney function from around 20 weeks and should generally be avoided from 30 weeks onward.

BreastfeedingConsult your doctor

Do not use ketorolac while breastfeeding without medical advice. A healthcare professional should assess potential infant risks and recommend an appropriate alternative if needed.

DrivingConsult your doctor

Ketorolac may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or visual disturbances. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience these effects after taking the medicine.

KidneyConsult your doctor

Ketorolac can cause kidney injury, especially in people with kidney disease, dehydration, or reduced blood volume. Consult your doctor before use if you have kidney problems.

LiverConsult your doctor

Tell your doctor about liver disease before taking ketorolac. Severe liver impairment requires particular caution, and the medicine may be unsuitable depending on your condition.
