Medicine information

Uses & overview

TACRENOLIME 0.25 Capsule contains Tacrolimus 0.25 mg, an immunosuppressive medicine used as part of combination therapy to help prevent organ rejection in patients who have undergone organ transplantation. Tacrolimus works by suppressing certain immune-system responses that can cause the body to attack a transplanted organ. Tacrolimus is commonly used following kidney, liver, or heart transplantation, depending on the patient's treatment protocol. The required dose is highly individualized and depends on the type of transplant, time since transplantation, tacrolimus blood concentration, kidney and liver function, other medicines being taken, and the patient's overall clinical condition. TACRENOLIME 0.25 is a product of Steris Healthcare and contains Tacrolimus 0.25 mg per capsule. It is a prescription immunosuppressant that should be taken only under the supervision of a transplant specialist. Regular blood tests are essential to monitor tacrolimus levels and assess kidney function, liver function, electrolytes, and other relevant parameters.

How to use

Take TACRENOLIME 0.25 exactly as prescribed by your transplant specialist. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule unless specifically instructed by your healthcare professional. Tacrolimus should generally be taken consistently at the same times each day and in a consistent relationship to meals. Avoid changing the way you take it without consulting your doctor because food and certain beverages can affect tacrolimus absorption. Do not stop TACRENOLIME 0.25 or change the dose without medical advice. Missing doses or suddenly stopping immunosuppressive therapy can increase the risk of organ rejection. Your doctor will regularly monitor tacrolimus blood levels and may adjust your dose accordingly.

Storage

Store TACRENOLIME 0.25 Capsules according to the storage conditions stated on the product packaging. Keep the capsules in their original packaging, protected from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not use the medicine after its expiry date or if the packaging is damaged.

Important guidance

Safety advice

Check with your doctor
AlcoholConsult your doctor

Discuss alcohol consumption with your transplant specialist, particularly because tacrolimus may interact with other medicines and can affect liver and kidney function.

PregnancyConsult your doctor

If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or could become pregnant, inform your transplant specialist. Tacrolimus may be used in some transplant recipients when the benefits outweigh the risks, but specialist monitoring is required.

BreastfeedingConsult your doctor

Consult your doctor before breastfeeding while taking tacrolimus. Your transplant specialist will assess the benefits and potential risks for you and your baby.

DrivingConsult your doctor

Tacrolimus may cause dizziness, tremor, visual disturbances, or other neurological effects in some patients. Avoid driving if you feel impaired.

KidneyConsult your doctor

Tacrolimus can affect kidney function. Regular monitoring of serum creatinine and other kidney-function parameters is important during treatment.

LiverConsult your doctor

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease. Tacrolimus dosing and monitoring may need adjustment according to liver function and blood concentrations.
