Medicine information

Uses & overview

TACRENOLIME 1 Capsule contains Tacrolimus 1 mg, an immunosuppressive medicine used as part of combination therapy to help prevent organ rejection in patients who have undergone organ transplantation. Tacrolimus works by suppressing specific immune-system responses that may cause the body to recognize and attack a transplanted organ. Tacrolimus may be prescribed following kidney, liver, or heart transplantation, depending on the patient's individual treatment plan. The appropriate dose is highly individualized and depends on the type of transplant, time since transplantation, tacrolimus blood concentration, kidney and liver function, other medicines being taken, and the patient's overall clinical condition. TACRENOLIME 1 is a product of Steris Healthcare and contains Tacrolimus 1 mg per capsule. It is a prescription immunosuppressant that should be used only under the supervision of a transplant specialist. Regular blood tests are important to monitor tacrolimus levels, kidney function, liver function, electrolytes, and other relevant parameters.

How to use

Take TACRENOLIME 1 exactly as prescribed by your transplant specialist. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule unless specifically instructed by your healthcare professional. Take tacrolimus consistently at the same times each day and maintain a consistent relationship to meals. Food can affect tacrolimus absorption, so do not change your usual administration routine without discussing it with your doctor. Do not stop TACRENOLIME 1 or change the dose without medical advice. Missing doses or discontinuing immunosuppressive treatment can increase the risk of organ rejection. Your doctor will monitor tacrolimus blood concentrations and adjust the dose when necessary.

Storage

Store TACRENOLIME 1 Capsules according to the storage conditions stated on the product packaging. Keep the capsules in their original packaging, protected from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not use the medicine after its expiry date or if the packaging is damaged.

Important guidance

Safety advice

Check with your doctor
AlcoholConsult your doctor

Discuss alcohol consumption with your transplant specialist, particularly because tacrolimus may interact with other medicines and can affect kidney and liver function.

PregnancyConsult your doctor

If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or could become pregnant, inform your transplant specialist. Tacrolimus may be used in selected transplant recipients when medically appropriate, with specialist monitoring.

BreastfeedingConsult your doctor

Consult your doctor before breastfeeding while taking tacrolimus. Your transplant specialist will assess the potential benefits and risks.

DrivingConsult your doctor

Tacrolimus may cause dizziness, tremor, headache, or visual disturbances in some patients. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel impaired.

KidneyConsult your doctor

Tacrolimus can affect kidney function. Regular monitoring of serum creatinine and other kidney-function parameters is important during treatment.

LiverConsult your doctor

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease. Tacrolimus dosing and monitoring may need adjustment based on liver function and blood concentrations.
