Montelukast Sodium & Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride is a combination medicine prescribed to help manage symptoms associated with allergic conditions, particularly allergic rhinitis. It combines Montelukast Sodium, a leukotriene receptor antagonist, with Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride, a second-generation antihistamine. Together, these ingredients help address different pathways involved in allergy symptoms and may provide relief from sneezing, runny or blocked nose, nasal itching, watery eyes, and other allergy-related discomfort. Montelukast works by blocking leukotrienes, chemical substances involved in allergic inflammation and airway responses. Levocetirizine helps reduce the effects of histamine, which contributes to common allergy symptoms. This combination may be prescribed when a healthcare professional considers both ingredients appropriate for the patient's condition.
How to use
Take as prescribed: Use Montelukast Sodium & Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride only in the dose and for the duration recommended by your doctor. Do not increase, decrease, or stop the medicine without medical advice. Follow the recommended timing: This combination is often taken once daily, commonly in the evening, but follow the specific schedule prescribed by your healthcare professional. Swallow with water: If supplied as a tablet, swallow it whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically advises you to do so. With or without food: The medicine can generally be taken with or without food. Follow the instructions on your prescription or product label. Take regularly: If prescribed for ongoing allergy management, take the medicine regularly as directed rather than taking additional doses when symptoms become severe. Missed dose: If you forget a dose, take it when you remember unless it is close to the next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose. Avoid excessive alcohol: Alcohol may increase drowsiness or reduced alertness caused by Levocetirizine. Avoid alcohol if you experience sleepiness or dizziness. Monitor mood and behavior: Montelukast has been associated with serious neuropsychiatric effects in some patients. Contact your doctor promptly if you notice unusual dreams, sleep problems, agitation, anxiety, depression, irritability, or other significant changes in mood or behavior. Asthma precautions: Montelukast is not a rescue medicine for a sudden asthma attack. Use your prescribed quick-relief inhaler or emergency treatment plan for acute breathing difficulty.
